I have recently found a website and charity called Listening Books which is for people with a disability that struggle with reading because of it. It could be because you have dyslexia, Parkinson’s, are visually impaired or in my case, if you have Tourettes or any mental illness that stops you from reading.
I struggle with reading because of my tics, especially when I jerk my arms or keep doing eye tics. I end up losing my place or throwing the book and it then gets me very frustrated, which then makes me tic more and the loop keeps going on and on until I just can’t read for any longer.
I don’t enjoy reading anymore, so I end up missing out on it when I do actually like the story of the book, just not the reading, so it is wonderful to be supported by this charity.
Stephen Fry is the patron of the charity. This is what he has to say about it.
I made a short video which explains what Listening Books is, what they do and how much it costs. 🙂 XX
